Two Legal Assistance Corporation Attorneys Receive High Honors

Over the last few months, two lawyers at Legal Assistance Corporation of Central Massachusetts were given awards recognizing their outstanding legal accomplishments.

In October 2009, Attorney Valerie Zolezzi-Wyndham received the Rx for Excellence award from the Massachusetts Medical Law Report, a quarterly publication of Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly. Attorney Zolezzi-Wyndham is LACCM’s Director of Training and Professional Development and Coordinator of Family Advocates of Central Massachusetts, an innovative medical-legal collaboration between attorneys at LACCM and physicians throughout Worcester County. The Rx for Excellence award honors physicians, risk managers, attorneys and other professionals for best practices in safety, quality and risk management in health care. According to Lawyers Weekly, recipients of the award “are the unsung heroes of their professions, those who lead by example and demonstrate the highest quality of work in their field, often without fanfare.”

In December 2009, Attorney Christina L. Paradiso, LACCM’s Senior Supervising Attorney in the Families and Children’s Unit, received the Women of Justice award, given by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly in partnership with the Women’s Bar Association and Massachusetts Association of Women Lawyers. The award honors individuals in different fields and industries who have made meaningful and inspiring contributions in the fields of social justice and advocacy.

LACCM provides free civil legal assistance to the low-income and elderly residents of Worcester County and receives funding from the Massachusetts Legal Assistance Corporation, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, a number of local United Way affiliates, and a variety of private foundations. LACCM’s main office is located in the City of Worcester, and it also maintains satellite offices in Fitchburg, Milford, and Southbridge. LACCM’s staff consists of 24 attorneys, 3 advocacy paralegals, and 6 administrative support staff. LACCM provides services to over 4,000 clients each year.
